Culture Night 2018

Come and experience an awe-inspiring, interactive variety of cultural performances this Friday at Charleville Castle, Tullamore!

Culture Night 2018 - Charleville Castle 1.jpg

Culture Night takes place once a night each year in September. Originating in Temple Bar, it has now extended to hundreds of venues that host free events which take place throughout the whole country in the majority of towns and cities in Ireland. Its purpose is to celebrate international creativity in this country, and also for each county, town and city to be aware of and appreciate its multicultural, talented citizens.

Venues in Tullamore, Co. Offaly also host a variety of Culture Night performances each year in various venues throughout the town through the Offaly County Council Arts Office. This year, over 30 venues will open up their doors and showcase some of County Offaly’s best talent through poetry, theatre, craft, song, dance and comedy; Charleville Castle will of course be right in the middle of the excitement – with an amazing variety of international songs, dance and revelry!

Cultue Night takes place this year on Friday, September 21st, starting at 7pm with open tours of the mezzanine floor. At 8pm we welcome Dance groups Rokoko, Step by Step from Dublin who will be treating the audience to an amazing assortment of dance styles as well as the Celtic Blondes Irish song and dance. We also welcome Lithuanian Community Dance Groups Rakila and Lelumie as well as resident Poet and longtime Volunteer Roseanna Tyrell.

Following the cultural dance show, we introduce the finale of the evening’s entertainment with Rahan Comhaltas and friends taking to the stage to bring to you the very best of their own Irish traditional culture with a show that both captivates the audience and welcomes their participation. After the initial staged show, light refreshments are served during the short break ‘sos’. Then the wild card part of the show unfolds where guests are invited to join in the Seisiún experience, taking to the floor as they wish … with a step, tune, song, or story which will bring the evening to a fantastic crescendo that will have the audience singing, participating and dancing along. Music, song, dance and storytelling await the lucky audience on this anticipated night – but who will show up? There is only one way to find out – see you there!

Audience members get a double whammy – not only do they get to experience amazing cultural talent in County Offaly’s Culture Centre of the Midlands on the heel of successful Multicultural Dance and Art Festival Shakefest, but they also get to experience it in one of Ireland’s Neo-Gothic Architectural and Artistic Masterpieces – Charleville Castle.

We wish to thank the Offaly County Council Arts Office for supporting this venture.
