Come and Celebrate Culture Night with Charleville Castle & Friends! 

This year at Charleville Castle, the Parish of Rahan presents a variety of cultural acts in the Grand Ballroom which include colourful and captivating Cultural Dance performances by The Red Embers, enjoy an energetic and lively set of French, Polish and Gypsy Jazz music by Jacek & Friends, as well as be surprised by a host of International Drop-In acts and Storytelling brought to you by Rahan Comhaltas. It’s bound to be a great night of entertainment for all ages so don’t miss out!Culture Night is taking place on Friday September 18th and our celebrations at Charleville Castle will begin at 7:30 pm. The Second Annual Explorers Museum Film Festival

Explorers Museum CrestWe are honoured to announce The 2nd Annual Explorers Museum Film Festival will be opened on

Friday evening 4th of September 2015 by the Canadian Ambassador, H.E. Kevin Vickers.

Lorie Karnath, co-founder of The Explorers Museum, delivers welcome on behalf of the museum. Dudley Stewart and Bridget Vance welcome guests on behalf of the Charleville Castle.

The evening will start with the Explorers Pennant Ceremony, the teturn of pennant #4 to Lorie Karnath and Mabel Purkerson, director and chair of the pennant committee, by Anne Doubilet. director of pennant #4 and handing over to Mark Terry, direct
or for his upcoming expedition.

The Film Festival was first launched in 2014 in order to promote the development of The Explorers Museum, which will be based at Charleville Castle. The Charleville Castle Heritage Trust will work with The Explorers Museum to develop a world-class museum, which will honour past, present and future accomplishments in the realm of exploration and draw audiences from around the world. A not for profit venture, it will serve to promote exploration through recognition of significant expeditions and discoveries, while also curating special exhibits featuring feats and historical achievements.

Medieval Music and Dance Recital

On Tuesday, December 23rd

Sam Burke from the early music and folk group NUADA will present a set of Christmas songs and music to invoke the spirit of Christmas in Medieval times.  Music will range from carols, sung in Norman French and Old English, to dance tunes and songs from the 17th century, all played on replicas of historic instruments including the Lute, Dulcimer and Hurdy-Gurdy.  Sam will also be joined by local artists including The Red Embers Oriental Dance Troupe and The Tullamore Rhymer’s Club.

Come and enjoy speaking with Medieval Re-enactors, enjoy roaring fires, mulled wine, and sparkling Christmas Trees – come and help us celebrate our musical history and local talent in the Pre-Christmas magical setting of Charleville Castle.

Explorers Museum – Fireside Chat, with historian Ruth Illingworth

Explorer and naturalist Col. Charles Howard-Bury born at Charleville Castle, led the first successfulExplorers Museum Crest reconnaissance to Mount Everest in 1921, thus paving the way for future expeditions. The expedition was launched from the Castle itself and the equipment used during this arduous journey went through a rigorous testing process under the vicissitudes of Irish weather in the castle courtyard.

October 18th at 16:00 The Explorers Museum will host its next Fireside Chat, featuring legendary historian who will speak on “Charles Howard-Bury and Everest”.

Halloween Art Projection on Charleville Castle

This event is for ALL AGES and guaranteed to make the hair at the back of your neck stand up – prepare for a night of SCARY STORIES and LIVE LIGHT PAINTING!

Popular Projection Artist Benjamin Rabe from Germany, together with Maglus Stylus and designers Appledea from Tullamore will be collaborating on a massive Halloween Themed Projection on Charleville Castle on Tuesday, October 14th @7pm.This particular project is to demonstrate an exhibition of his talents and the amazing things you can do with modern technology in conjunction with real-life, or even historic objects.
